Our story

It all began with a strong desire for creating a nurturing environment to give her son the best private home education.

High Chief Dr. (Mrs) Winifred Awosika, OON
In the vibrant neighbourhood of Ladipo Oluwole, Mrs Winifred Awosika, took a break from her teaching job to care for her 8 children. Her strong desire to provide her three-year-old son with a nurturing education led her to teach him at home. During this period, her friends and family took notice, and requested to bring their young children to her. Enthusiastically, she converted a room in her home to a nursery, teaching 3 children daily.
With the family moving to a new home on Opebi Road to accommodate her large family, she convinced her husband, Dr Victor Awosika to use the old house and convert it to a school. But what would she name the school?

A strong Christian by faith, she thought of the name All Saints School, but the name was deemed too "religious", and instead, decided on Chrisland School.

1977

Chrisland School is Born

On October 3rd, 1977, Chrisland School officially welcomed 5 students to the school. With Mrs Awosika, the head teacher, Mrs Awegu, assistant teacher, and Mrs Loda, the admin officer, she and her team had a goal to provide the nurturing environment to give the students the best private education in Nigeria. By the end of the academic year, the students had grown to 31.

A growing demand for another school branch encourages Mrs Awosika to open a new location in Opebi.

1978

Chrisland School, Opebi Welcomes The Community

Chrisland School Opebi, emerged with Mrs. Agwu at its helm as the head teacher. On its inaugural day, the school warmly welcomed 17 eager students. Situated conveniently behind her own residence, this close proximity, in conjunction with Chrisland School Ladipo Oluwole, enabled Mrs. Awosika and her dedicated team to uphold and enhance the esteemed academic standards set by Chrisland Schools.

Fast forward to 1987...

Chrisland College

Our first secondary and boarding school

The family owned a 50-acre land in Idimu, Lagos State, utilising a section for farming and poultry. Led by Mrs. Awosika, her team established Chrisland College on February 2, 1987. With an initial staff of 20 and 5 students, Mrs. Anu served as the principal. Mrs. Awosika expressed, "this is for the people" during the school's opening.

1998

Chrisland School VGC

Chrisland continued to expand its reach, establishing a branch in the notable community of Victoria Garden City (VGC). Before the school's launch, it was already drawing much attention for its dome-shaped classroom buildings.
The school opened its doors to the VGC community on September 21, 1998, with 33 students and 12 staff.

In 2001, her daughters; Mrs Ibironke Adeyemi and Mrs Anike Oye, came on board as the Executive Director and Administrative Manager, respectively.

Chrisland High School VGC

The year 2006 was our first high school

Driven by the continuous expansion of Chrisland School VGC and the increasing demand for a dedicated high school, High Chief Dr (Mrs) Awosika and her team undertook the task of establishing separate entities. This led to the creation of Chrisland Primary School and Chrisland High School VGC, both situated on a spacious 4-acre land.

In September 2006, Chrisland High School VGC opened its doors to the VGC community and embarked on an inspiring journey. Despite its humble beginnings with only 14 students, many of whom transitioned from the primary school, it has emerged as a resounding success. With a team of dedicated educators and staff, Chrisland High School VGC provides holistic education to over 450 "Chrislanders," nurturing their overall development and academic growth.
Over time, High Chief Dr (Mrs) Winifred Awosika recognized the exceptional capabilities and qualities possessed by her daughter, Mrs Ibironke Adeyemi, in elevating the standards of Chrisland Schools. Witnessing her remarkable contributions in areas such as infrastructure development, health services, technology integration, and modernizing the academic curriculum, High Chief Dr (Mrs) Winifred Awosika made the decision to transition from the role of CEO to Chairman. In the year 2006, she appointed Mrs Ibironke Adeyemi as the CEO of the school.

Under the dynamic leadership of Mrs Ibironke Adeyemi as CEO and Mrs Anike Oye as the Executive Director, Chrisland Schools has witnessed remarkable growth in both student population and physical infrastructure. Presently, it encompasses 7 nursery and primary school branches, including 3 crèche schools, 6 secondary schools, and 1 sixth form school. These achievements are a testament to the unwavering commitment to the school's core values and the relentless pursuit of excellence.
