“The winds and the waves are always on the side of the ablest navigators”. At Chrisland High School VGC our commitment to excellence and sound educational management could not be better described than with these famous words by Edward Gibbons.

To attain success in modern education, we need great awareness and agility. We need to read the winds and adapt to change. We need to check our course and set our sails anew every day to ensure that we stay ahead of times. Only then will we be able to “Show forth the light” to every corner of the universe, according to the motto of Chrisland Schools LTD. If we work and plan well, the winds and the waves will always be in our favour.

Since its inception in 2006, Chrisland High School VGC has been a success story.  After a humble start with only 14 learners, it has grown into an academic giant with dedicated staff and excellent facilities, providing holistic education to more than 430 “Chrislanders”.  At CHSVGC we are aware of our calling to provide only the best education in order to benefit our learners, our country and ultimately the world.  We do this in accordance with the following strategic focus areas:

•Managing the quality of the teaching and learning programmes in the school

•Pursuing academic excellence and exceptional performance of students

•Expanding the level of science and mathematics teaching and learning

•Implementing an information science and technology culture

•Instilling positive values and discipline in the teaching and learning programme

•Developing and improving the creative and innovative abilities of students and teachers

•Developing all students and teachers via knowledge, skills and attitude training

•Emphasizing scientific sport development

•Fostering an entrepreneurship culture

•Contributing to a culture of life-long learning amongst students and teachers

The school is ideally situated in Road 3, Victoria Garden City Estate, Ajah. It is easily accessible from the Lekki-Epe Expressway and it is only thirty minutes’ drive from Lagos Island and about one hour from Lagos Mainland.

School Curriculum, Ability Streaming and Accreditation

CHSVGC runs the Nigerian and British curriculums concurrently.  Our assessment system is based on continuous assessment, assignments, project work and termly examinations. Placement to classes is done by a system of streaming which allows for healthy competition among students. It also gives opportunity for differential teaching and early academic intervention programs for students with barriers to learning.  In the same way, talented students are given extension work for further development.

Currently we have four streams, namely Amethyst, Crystal, Sapphire and Tanzanite. Learners may migrate from one class (or stream) to another, depending on their academic performance.

We are accredited with Accreditation International (AI), the National Council for Private School Accreditation (NCPSA) and the Council of British International Schools (COBIS). Chrisland Schools LTD also is a member of the Association of Private Educators in Nigeria (APEN).

National and International Exams

We prepare students to write Nigerian and international examinations. Local examinations include those set by the National Examination Council (NECO), which consist of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) for junior school students and the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) for the senior school.

Senior students also write the West Africa School Certificate Examination (WASCE) conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). International examinations include Cambridge Check Point for Junior School, International General Certificate for Secondary Education (IGCSE), Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), as well as the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL).

Extension classes aimed at preparing Year 9 and Year 12 learners for external examinations take place throughout the year. The extension programmes run from 3 pm to 4 pm on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, as well as from 9.00 am to 2.30 pm on specific Saturdays.

Sports and School Houses

Sports facilities include an indoor swimming pool and an air conditioned hall for indoor sports. The spacious VGC Park with facilities for soccer, basketball and volleyball provides ample opportunity for sports practice twice a week.

Upon enrolment, learners are allocated to one of four houses in the school, namely The Cedars, The Firs, The Oaks and The Pines. The yearly Inter-House Sports is a memorable event where all learners get the opportunity to compete for the respective houses to see which house will take top honours. Learners also compete in sports events organised by The Association of International School Educators of Nigeria (AISEN), as well as events by other external bodies and sponsors.

Support Services

Situated in a security estate, the school is a safe haven in an environment that is conducive to learning. In the well-equipped, air conditioned classrooms we provide excellent education which speaks to the body, mind and soul of every individual.

An air conditioned bus service with experienced drivers ensures that learners who need assistance with traveling to and from the school are delivered safely in the morning and in the afternoon. The bus service is also available for school activities over week-ends.

Our school boasts with an excellent security service. With 24 hour camera surveillance, competent and trained security staff and proper access control, we ensure the safety of every learner and member of staff.

A qualified medical nurse runs our well-equipped sickbay, ensuring the well-being of all learners. Cases beyond the medical jurisdiction of the nurse are referred to the parents for specialized medical assistance.

The school counsellor ensures that every learner has access to professional personal care and emotional and mental support. Confidentiality and respect are the watchwords that ensure mutual trust and personal growth in this regard.

School Culture

At Chrisland High School VGC we maintain a culture of academic excellence which is supported by good educational management and healthy discipline. We uphold our motto to “Show forth the light” in all our endeavours. As “light bearers” we stand out in areas of integrity, self-discipline and moral values, as well as soundness of body and mind. We have a calling to ensure the well-being of every member of the Chrisland family and to be a blessing to humanity. We know that no half measures has brought anybody to the pinnacle of success, therefore we approach every task with total commitment.
